Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 2026

1. Overview

Keepsake is designed to protect your privacy. The app is built around a local-first architecture, meaning your memories and media remain on your device unless you choose to store them in your own cloud account.

We do not collect, store, or sell personal data. Your keepsakes remain under your control at all times.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Keepsake app.

2. Information We Collect

Keepsake does not collect personal information.

The app does not require:

  • account creation
  • email addresses
  • phone numbers
  • usernames
  • passwords

All keepsake data is created and stored locally on your device by default.

Keepsake does not maintain servers that store user memories or personal data.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

When you create a keepsake, the following information may be stored locally on your device:

  • photos you capture or attach
  • audio recordings
  • video recordings
  • descriptions you write
  • optional metadata such as dates, locations, people, or tags
  • media files associated with a keepsake

This information is stored within the app's sandboxed storage on your device.

Keepsake cannot access data outside the app unless you explicitly grant permission (for example, selecting photos from your library).

4. Optional Cloud Storage

Keepsake offers optional cloud synchronization features.

If you enable cloud sync, your data may be stored in your personal cloud storage account, such as:

  • Apple iCloud
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox

Keepsake does not operate or control these services.

Your memories remain stored in your own cloud account, not on Keepsake servers.

You can disable cloud sync at any time.

5. Shared Boxes

If you choose to share a memory box with other users, the content will be stored in a shared cloud location controlled by the cloud provider (such as iCloud).

Participants may view shared keepsakes, but each keepsake remains owned by the person who created it.

Keepsake does not host or store shared content.

6. Media Access Permissions

Keepsake may request permission to access certain device features in order to function:

Camera — Used to capture photos or videos of keepsakes.

Microphone — Used to record audio stories explaining why you kept an item.

Photo Library — Used to attach existing photos or save exported images.

File Access — Used to import or export Keepsake Boxes via the Files app or external storage.

These permissions are optional and only used when you initiate the action.

7. Analytics

Keepsake may collect limited anonymous usage analytics to improve the app experience. These analytics may include:

  • feature usage
  • import success rates
  • share feature usage
  • error diagnostics

Analytics do not include:

  • photos
  • audio recordings
  • video recordings
  • written descriptions
  • personal metadata

No personal memories or media content are ever collected or transmitted.

Analytics are used solely to improve reliability and performance.

8. Data Export and Portability

Keepsake is designed to ensure users always maintain ownership of their memories.

Users can export memory boxes at any time. Exported boxes contain:

  • media files
  • metadata describing keepsakes

These exports are stored in an open, portable format so your data is never locked into the app.

9. Data Retention

Keepsake does not retain user data.

All keepsake information remains:

  • on your device
  • in your personal cloud storage (if enabled)

Deleting a keepsake removes it from the app's local storage.

10. Children's Privacy

Keepsake does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Because the app does not collect personal data or require accounts, it does not maintain profiles or personal records of users.

Parents and guardians should supervise children when using camera and recording features.

11. Security

Keepsake relies on the security systems built into iOS and Apple's sandboxing protections.

Media and data stored by the app are protected by:

  • iOS app sandboxing
  • device encryption
  • user-controlled cloud storage (if enabled)

Keepsake does not operate servers that store user memories.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app or legal requirements.

If significant changes are made, the updated policy will be made available within the app or on our website.
